Innovation Grant Awarded to Robin Hood Partnership

July 23, 2010 New York

Announcement

I'm very excited to let you know that Robin Hood is part of a groundbreaking partnership that won the competition for backing by the Social Innovation Fund (SIF). This highly competitive award is part of a federal effort intended to increase the impact of social entrepreneurs and pioneering nonprofits by scaling effective programs and investing in promising new ideas. The amount of the federal award is $5 million—truly ambitious as it accounts for fully 10 percent of the national SIF pot. The partnership will develop a coordinated program to help nearly 8,000 at-risk high school students graduate and enroll in college or find employment.

The project, a partnership being led by New Profit, also includes Open Society Foundation, Blue Ridge Foundation and SeaChange Capital Partners. Additionally, two Robin Hood grantees, iMentor and Year Up, will be among the groups administering the front-line services. The partnership will enable Robin Hood to take the lead in designing groundbreaking evaluation and research protocols for the project. Sincerely,

David Saltzman
Executive Director
