Center For Family Life In Sunset Park
Immigrant families in this Brooklyn community face tremendous barriers, including substandard housing, lack of child care resources and insufficient employment opportunities as well as inadequate health coverage and services. In the Robin Hood-funded workforce program, job counselors meet with 300 job seekers annually to determine immediate workforce goals and then help them obtain child care, housing, family counseling, mental health or substance abuse counseling, as applicable. Job-readiness workshops address communication, customer service skills, computer and internet literacy, career development, workplace ethics and employer expectations. In addition, over 500 families with more than 1,000 children are referred each year for preventive services to the Robin Hood-funded family counseling program. The agency prevents foster care placement in 99 percent of cases. The organization also runs a Single Stop site.
