Dr. T. Berry Brazelton

2000 Hero

Director, Brazelton Touchpoints Center

Dr. T. Berry Brazelton, world-renowned pediatrician, developed a model for understanding child development called "Touchpoints." For four decades he has set the standard for infant care as the author of 32 books on pediatrics and child development in his position as Clinical Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.

Now he has brought his expertise to Harlem. The Touchpoints Project at the Harlem Children's Zone, unites three extraordinary groups to improve services for 14,000 families in central Harlem, where the infant mortality rate remains among the highest in the country. In addition to providing essential training in child development to expectant mothers and overwhelmed parents through the project's Baby College, this program ensures that every child has health insurance and easy access to high quality, affordable healthcare.
