in her own words. |

Lydia was a cocaine addict. Her life hadn't been an easy one. It was 1997, and she was living in the Bronx with her two young daughters. A third child — a son — was on the way. He would eventually be born toxic. That's when the legal system stepped in with an ultimatum: get clean or have your kids taken away.
Lydia’s greatest fear was losing her children, so she had no choice. She needed to get off drugs, rehabilitate her life and become a good parent. That’s a tall order for a poor, single mother. But Lydia knew that she needed help, and she found it at ABC.
By 2002, Lydia had been clean for five years. She had full custody of her kids and had become a great mom. Her son grew up healthy and her two daughters were offered scholarships to prestigious private schools. It's a great story that could easily have ended as a tragedy.
