THE EARLY LANGUAGE PRIZE IS A $5 MILLION PRIZE DESIGNED TO INSPIRE THE DEVELOPment of INNOVATIVE AND SCALABLE PLATFORMS TO IMPROVE LANGUAGE SKILLS AMONG 3-TO 4-YEAR-OLDS FROM LOW-INCOME FAMILIES.

THE PROBLEM

Strong early language skills have been linked with successful student performance in grade school, continuing through high school and beyond.

In the United States, 34% of children entering kindergarten lack the basic language skills needed to learn how to read. Most of these students come from low-income households.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We’re seeking individuals and teams who either have or want to develop scalable, low-cost interventions that help 3- to 4-year-olds develop improved language skills.

The Prize will award successful interventions, such as smartphone or desktop apps and web-based tools. Interventions are expected to supplement peer-to-peer interaction, existing prekindergarten curricula and other educational services.

Further details of the rules coming soon.
