LEARN HOW TO SECURE FUNDING FROM
RESULTS-DRIVEN, EVIDENCE-BASED FUNDERS
Grant Readiness and Insights Training (GRIT) is a cohort-based program that provides training and support for talented executives from the social service nonprofit sector to qualify for and secure funding from foundations in the metro-New York City area. Initially funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies in 2016, the goal of the program is to teach leaders how to obtain support from results-driven, evidence-based funders like Robin Hood. The deadline to apply to the spring 2023 cohort is March 31, 2023.

TO QUALIFY FOR GRIT, NONPROFITS MUST MEET
THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA
Grant-Ready Insights and Training (GRIT) is a cohort-based program that provides training and support for talented leaders of organizations from the social services nonprofit sector at a crucial milestone of development or expansion. The goal of the program is to teach these leaders how to obtain support from results-driven, evidenced based philanthropic funders.
Be based in New York City or the tri-state region and serve New York City and metropolitan area residents
Offer intriguing and important social services for individuals and families
Be new to Robin Hood in that the group is not a current or former grantee (with the exception of receiving Covid-19 Relief Fund support)
Experience organizational, governance or programmatic shortfalls or inadequate summary of results that may limit chances for program grants from evidence-based funders
Oversee a budget between $1 million and $25 million in which philanthropic and other private support does not exceed 20 percent of revenues
Be a viable organization and be operational for at least five years but not possess a history of more than 50 years (start-up organizations or century-old agencies are sub-optimal fits)
How to apply
The application is a comprehensive assessment of your organization’s qualifications and requires the submission of official documents. Please be prepared to include the following documents with your application: 501(c)(3), most recent audit, most recent IRS form 990, budget to actuals for the entire organization, and list of board directors with affiliations.

Timeline
February 2 – March 31, 2023: Applications open
March 31, 2023: Application deadline
April 1 – 19, 2023: Application review, phone interviews, and selection
April 21, 2023: Candidate notification
May 2 – June 1, 2023: Program sessions
Process
Application: Prospective participants will complete an online application which Robin Hood will review.
Phone Interview: After the initial application screening, Robin Hood will invite prospective candidates for a phone interview to determine suitability for the program.
Notification: Applicants who represent a strong fit with and commitment to the program will be invited to participate.
